The following speech tells about Kos minar.
INTRODUCTION:
A very good morning to all the dignitaries, respected teachers and my dear friends. I am K. J. Divyadarsini of class 6.I have wondered many times that how was distance measured long ago. Today lets discuss about the Kos minar which was very helpful in those days for measuring distance.
A Kos minar is a solid round pillar at the height of 9.1m.Minar is the persian word for tower. These minars has been named as Kos long ago.
These are erected to serve as markers of distance along the Dehli to Agra road. A kos signify 3.22 km whereas two kos minars signify 6.44 km. By this method, travellers of those days measured the distance covered by them.
These minars also had a place called sarais where the people and horses can drink water and rest for a while. Kos minars are also a place of better security. Hence, people also store goods inside them.
These Kos minars has been built by the King Akbar in the year 1619 using the bricks.
In the initial stage there were 1000 kos minars but there are only 110 kos minars left now. This is because as India started to grow, people thought that these minars are not important and destroyed them. Most of the Kos minars have been destroyed because of the urban expansion.
CONCLUSION:
I will like to conclude that do not destroy these kind of wonderful buildings in India. Try to respect the significance of our ancestors amazing ideas. Explore these kind of hidden places in India and protect these buildings built by Indians. I am very proud to be a Indian.
Thank You...
